The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has commenced the second phase of compensation for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) impacted by the ongoing 330kV Double Circuit QUAD Conductor Mando–Rimin Zakara Transmission Line Project.
The compensation exercise, which began on Thursday in Shika, Zaria, is expected to cover more than 2,000 claimants as part of efforts to ensure the smooth execution of the major transmission infrastructure project in Northern Nigeria.
Speaking during the exercise, the Project Manager, Omobola Odusoga Sobo, disclosed that a total of 5,500 Project Affected Persons had earlier been enumerated along the Mando–Rimin Zakara transmission corridor, with the current phase addressing compensation for approximately 2,000 beneficiaries.
She explained that TCN places priority on clearing the Right of Way (RoW) before the commencement of transmission projects to guarantee public safety, protect infrastructure integrity, and facilitate seamless project implementation.
Sobo commended district heads and community leaders for sensitising residents on the importance of the project and the compensation process. She also acknowledged the support of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of TCN, Sule Abdulaziz, as well as the African Development Bank for their contributions toward the successful execution of the exercise.
In his remarks, the District Head of Rigasa, Muhammed Aminu Idris, noted that although it may be difficult to achieve total satisfaction in compensation exercises, TCN had demonstrated transparency and inclusiveness by consistently engaging community leaders and residents throughout the process.
He expressed optimism that the transmission project would significantly improve electricity supply and drive socio-economic development across affected communities in Kaduna and Kano States.
The exercise commenced with a screening and verification process during which affected persons presented original documents for authentication before payment. TCN stated that the process was designed to ensure accountability, due process, and proper identification of legitimate beneficiaries.
Some beneficiaries who spoke during the exercise commended TCN for the transparent conduct of the compensation process. Mallam Lawal Abubakar expressed appreciation for the initiative, while Shehu Muhammad pledged continued support and cooperation from the host communities. Another beneficiary, Muhammad Lawal, also praised the orderly nature of the exercise.
The transmission line project will extend from the Mando Transmission Substation in Kaduna State to the Rimin Zakara Transmission Substation in Kano State, with a Turn-In Turn-Out connection at the new 2x150MVA 330/132/33kV substation in Jaja, Zaria.
According to TCN, the project, supported by the Federal Government and the African Development Bank, is one of the key transmission reinforcement initiatives aimed at strengthening power supply across the Kaduna, Zaria, and Kano industrial corridors.
The company added that the project forms part of broader efforts to expand Nigeria’s transmission wheeling capacity, improve grid reliability, and enhance nationwide power infrastructure redundancy.
The statement was signed by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
