The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has called for deeper collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force to enhance airside security across the country’s airports.

Kuku made the call on Tuesday while receiving the Commander of the National Air Defence Corps, Air Vice Marshal Japhet Ekwuribe, during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation.

She noted that the evolving nature of security threats within airport environments demands robust partnerships, intelligence sharing, and coordinated operational strategies among key stakeholders.

According to her, FAAN is committed to working closely with the Air Force in critical areas such as airside patrols, improved communication on sensitive flight operations, and proactive monitoring of activities within and around airport perimeters.
Kuku also highlighted land encroachment as a growing concern, stressing the need for collective vigilance and early intervention to protect vital aviation infrastructure.

She added that sustained collaboration among aviation stakeholders remains essential to maintaining safety standards and operational efficiency, assuring that FAAN values its partnership with the Air Force and is keen to deepen existing ties.
In his remarks, Air Vice Marshal Ekwuribe commended FAAN’s leadership for its proactive approach to aviation safety, describing the visit as a strategic step toward strengthening coordination in tackling shared security challenges.

He emphasized that enhanced collaboration would improve surveillance capabilities, response time, and overall effectiveness of security operations within Nigeria’s airport system.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuous engagement and the development of practical frameworks to ensure a safer and more secure aviation environment nationwide.

The meeting underscores a shared resolve by FAAN and the Nigerian Air Force to safeguard critical aviation assets and sustain safe airport operations across the country.
