The Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN) has unveiled plans to honour outstanding institutions and individuals for their contributions to global peace at its forthcoming international conference in Abuja.

The high-level gathering, scheduled for May 20, 2026, will centre on the theme: “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media.” The awards ceremony is expected to serve as a major highlight, setting the tone for broader discussions on safeguarding global stability.

Chairman of DICAN, Idehai Frederick, said the conference goes beyond routine diplomatic engagement, stressing that the growing manipulation of information poses a significant threat to global economic systems.

According to him, the distortion of information through Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) undermines investor confidence, disrupts supply chains, and weakens national assets.
“The integrity of information is fundamental to international commerce. When false narratives are allowed to spread unchecked, they create instability that affects trade and investment flows globally,” he stated.

Frederick described the summit as a strategic platform to promote what he termed “collaborative truth,” bringing together diplomacy, intelligence, and media to counter disinformation and reinforce global economic resilience.

The conference is expected to attract top diplomats, including ambassadors of the United States, China, and the European Union, alongside representatives from over 100 diplomatic missions.

Holding at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the event will convene key stakeholders from the intelligence community, trade and investment sectors, and the media to explore coordinated responses to emerging hybrid threats.

Observers say the initiative reflects Nigeria’s growing role in shaping global conversations around security, transparency, and sustainable investment.

By combining recognition of peacebuilding efforts with urgent dialogue on information warfare, DICAN aims to position the conference as a critical intervention in navigating the complex intersection of diplomacy, technology, and global economic stability.
