The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commended its top technical leadership and regional managers for achieving a significant reduction in the nation’s Transmission Loss Factor (TLF), describing the milestone as a clear indication of improved system efficiency across the power grid.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. (Dr.) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, gave the commendation on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, while declaring open a two-day quarterly meeting of Executive Directors and General Managers held in Abuja. He specifically praised the Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (TSP), Engr. Dr. Oluwagbenga Ajiboye, alongside General Managers from TCN’s ten regions and corporate headquarters, for their collective efforts in driving the achievement.

Abdulaziz noted that the reduction in transmission losses reflects a strong commitment to duty and a coordinated approach to operational efficiency. He urged the team to build on the gains by intensifying efforts to eliminate avoidable losses, strengthen maintenance culture, reduce outages, and ensure alignment of regional operations with the company’s broader strategic direction.
“This achievement demonstrates that our collective efforts are yielding measurable improvements in system efficiency,” he said, adding that sustained progress would require a combination of technical excellence and personal accountability.

The TCN boss also reaffirmed management’s commitment to providing a conducive work environment and called on staff to approach upcoming tasks with renewed dedication and a shared sense of purpose.

In his welcome remarks, the Executive Director, TSP, Engr. Dr. Oluwagbenga Ajiboye, explained that the meeting was convened to review performance, address operational challenges, and chart strategic priorities for the future. He urged General Managers to intensify their efforts to ensure the company continues to deliver effectively on its mandate.

Ajiboye also emphasized the importance of collaboration, encouraging participants to focus on practical solutions rather than assigning blame, while pledging to sustain regular quarterly engagements.

On workforce development, the Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Mrs. Abiodun Afolabi-Fadahunsi, stressed the need to strengthen staff readiness to meet TSP’s evolving demands. She highlighted plans to rebalance technical and non-technical staffing, address impending retirements in critical roles, and enhance capacity through structured training and retraining programmes.

According to her, targeted initiatives such as workforce validation, improved technical staffing, and role-based training for younger employees are already underway to boost efficiency and ensure continuity.

Also speaking, the Executive Director, Finance and Accounts, acknowledged the dedication of staff in maintaining operations despite financial constraints.

He pointed out that personnel costs have increased significantly following the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) unbundling, placing additional pressure on the company’s finances amid relatively low revenue inflows.
Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism that sustained commitment and strategic adjustments would improve the situation over time.

At the end of the meeting, key resolutions were adopted and are to be presented to the MD/CEO for implementation. The outcomes are expected to guide immediate operational improvements and reinforce TCN’s drive toward a more efficient and resilient national transmission network.
