The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is set for its 8th National Convention as thousands of delegates from across the country gather in Abuja for the crucial party exercise.
A total of 8,453 delegates drawn from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to converge at the iconic Eagle Square, the venue for the high-stakes convention where new national leaders will be elected. Party members from the diaspora are also billed to participate in the two-day event.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed the details during a world press conference held at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, describing the convention as a defining moment for the party.
According to him, the gathering goes beyond routine party activities, serving as a platform for leadership renewal, policy discussions, and setting the strategic direction for the APC’s next phase.
“This convention is a moment for reflection, consolidation, and forward planning. It underscores our commitment to strengthening internal democracy and aligning party processes with national development goals,” Idris stated.
He explained that the theme, “Unity in Progress – Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the party’s focus on cohesion and continuity, while reinforcing its alignment with the policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Idris noted that since its formation, the APC has remained a strong platform for progressive governance and national unity, maintaining resilience across electoral cycles.
He added that all necessary logistics and operational frameworks have been put in place by various subcommittees to ensure a seamless, transparent, and credible convention.
Also speaking, former Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the Central Coordinating Committee, Aminu Bello Masari, expressed confidence in the level of preparedness, assuring party members of a hitch-free exercise.
Masari dismissed claims that aspirants were denied nomination forms, insisting that the process remained open and fair to all qualified members.
The Minister further commended President Tinubu for his role in the growth of the APC and his leadership in promoting inclusiveness and national development.
Dignitaries present at the briefing included the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Vice Chairman of the Central Committee, Pius Ayim; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare; and Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Cross River State Commissioner for Information among others.
News Dot Africa confirms that preparations have intensified at Eagle Square, where workers are carrying out last-minute upgrades and decorations. Major roads leading to the venue have been adorned with banners welcoming delegates.
Security presence has equally been heightened across strategic locations within the FCT to ensure a smooth and incident-free convention and to secure the Federal Capital Territory whose hotels abd apartments are filled.
The 8th National Convention is expected to draw party leaders, delegates, and observers from across the country, marking another significant milestone in the APC’s political journey.
