It not only showcases the athletic abilities of the men and women in the industry but also promotes camaraderie and unity among participants. This year, one team is determined to dominate and bring home the gold medal – the NNPC men’s basketball team.
Under the leadership of Team Manager Philemon Yileng, the NNPC basketball team has set their eyes on the ultimate prize – the gold medal. Yileng believes that winning the gold medal will not only bring pride to the team but also deliver value for the NNPC. Their performances so far in the tournament are a testament to their determination and hard work, as they have emerged victorious in all three of their matches and currently top Group A.
But for Yileng and his team, it is not just about winning the tournament. It is about promoting a healthy work-life balance among employees. He believes that sports play a critical role in enhancing productivity and promoting well- being. With the NOGIG, employees in the industry have the opportunity to engage in fun- filled activity strengthening relationships and rejuvenating for their work.
Mr. Philemon went further to explain that, apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle, the games also serve as a platform for integration and unity among workers in the oil and gas industry. With participation from various companies and organisations, the NOGIG has become a melting pot of cultures and backgrounds, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork among participants. Reflecting on the growth of basketball in the competition, Yileng noted that more and more teams are competing, with a significant increase from 10 to 11 teams. This not only shows the popularity of the sport but also the growing interest and participation of the industry.
As the NNPC basketball gears up for the semi- finals on Thursday, Yileng remains confident in their skills and determination to bring home the gold. “And regardless of the outcome, the team will go back to work feeling refreshed, energised, and motivated to deliver value for their business.”
In conclusion, the NNPC basketball team is determined to make a mark at the 20th NOGIG, tagging the gold medal and seeking enhanced rewards. Their hard work, determination, and passion for the sport are a testament to the values and culture promoted by the NNPC. As the tournament comes to a close.
