NUJ FCT Council Mourns Passing of Veteran Journalist Stella Okoh Esene

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has expressed deep sadness over the death of Stella Okoh Esene, former Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter. She passed away on October 6, 2025, at the National Hospital Abuja after a prolonged illness.
In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the NUJ FCT Council described Esene as a dedicated and passionate media professional who made significant contributions to promoting women journalists and ethical journalism. Her leadership, courage, and commitment to truth and fairness in journalism were exemplary.
“Esene’s passing is a monumental loss to the journalism profession, particularly for women in media who saw her as a mentor and advocate for gender equity. Her experience and wisdom will be greatly missed in the ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism and inclusivity in the Nigerian media landscape.
“The NUJ FCT Council extends its heartfelt condolences to Esene’s family, colleagues, and NAWOJ members, praying for her soul’s repose and strength for those grieving her loss”, Comrade Oyekunle stated.
