Kaduna Contractors Cry Out Over ₦30 Billion Unpaid Projects, Seek Tinubu’s Intervention

A coalition of over 400 contractors in Kaduna State in Nigeria, has issued an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, seeking urgent intervention over unpaid contracts worth over ₦30 billion. The contractors, engaged by Formal Act Legacy Ltd, claim they were awarded projects covering critical development needs, including drilling water boreholes, constructing primary health care centers, and supplying hospital equipment.
In a petition co- signed by the Chairman of group, Engr. Adamu Isah and the Secretary, Mr. Idris Isayaku details of the unpaid contracts put the total value of the completed projects at over ₦30 billion.
The projects were completed between January 2022 and early 2023. Despite completing the projects, the contractors have not received any payment for their work.
As a result of the non payment, many contractors are now bankrupt, with their assets seized by creditors, some contractors have been hospitalized, while others have tragically passed away under the weight of this burden.
The affected contractors’ children are out of school, and their businesses are shuttered.
The contractors are calling on President Tinubu to intervene in the recovery the payments owed to the contractors, hold accountable those responsible for the alleged fraudulent scheme and restore faith in justice and leadership for the affected citizens.
The contractors also appealed to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, citing the direct involvement of the 23 Local Government Chairmen in awarding and signing the contracts. They believe the Governor’s intervention would bring relief to the affected contractors and uphold the integrity of the contracts and developmental projects undertaken in Kaduna State.
