Ghana’s President John Mahama to Attend West Africa Economic Summit in Abuja

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was warmly received by Ghana’s President John Mahama on June 12, 2025, as she delivered a special invitation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to attend the inaugural West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) in Abuja. The summit, scheduled for June 20-21, 2025, aims to drive regional economic growth and integration.

President Mahama praised the WAES initiative, describing it as “long overdue” and commending President Tinubu for demonstrating exceptional leadership in the subregion.

President Mahama has confirmed his attendance at the summit with a high-powered delegation, underscoring Ghana’s commitment to regional economic cooperation.

The WAES seeks to:
– Establish a harmonized trade policy framework
– Secure infrastructure funding
– Promote inclusive growth
– Enhance economic resilience across West Africa

The summit is expected to bring together Heads of State, ministers, private sector leaders, and development partners to discuss and shape the region’s economic future. Key events include:
– A meeting of Heads of State and prominent business leaders
– Business-to-Government (B2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) Interactions to creating new pathways for collaboration and growth
– West Africa Business Expo to showcase over 100 investment-ready small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and regional development projects.

The summit aligns with Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), reinforcing its commitment to advancing regional economic integration and prosperity.
