Nigerian Organization Urges Government to Address Passport Delays in the US

The Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN) has written to the Nigerian Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, expressing deep disappointment over the lack of response to their appeal for passport printers at the Nigerian Consulates in New York and Atlanta. This lack of action has resulted in significant delays and travel burdens for Nigerians living in the US.

The OAN highlighted the heavy burden on the New York Consulate, inefficiencies caused by centralized passport printing in Washington, D.C., and security risks posed by immigration officers traveling to Washington monthly to print passports. They emphasized that the New York Consulate serves the largest jurisdiction in the US, covering multiple states with a high concentration of Nigerian citizens.

The organization warned that the consequences of inaction could be severe, including increased public frustration, national security risks, and a negative impact on Nigeria’s image abroad. They urged the minister to act swiftly to rectify the situation by deploying passport printers to the New York and Atlanta Consulates.

The OAN, a non-profit organization promoting the welfare, culture, and interests of Nigerians in the US, remains committed to working with the minister’s office to ensure efficient delivery of consular services. They requested acknowledgment of their letter and an update on any actions being taken to resolve the passport production issues.
