HoSF Decorated As Champion and Advocate Against Gender- Based Violence (GBV)

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has officially decorated the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, as a Champion and Advocate against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

At the ceremony held Tuesday in Abuja, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, lauded Mrs. Walson-Jack’s exceptional contributions to the prevention and response to GBV in Nigeria. He noted her unwavering dedication to gender equality and her advocacy for the rights of women and girls, which have significantly advanced the Ministry’s efforts to combat GBV across the country.

In his remarks, Ambassador Aduda said, “The Ministry is honored to recognize Mrs. Walson-Jack for her impactful leadership and commitment to addressing GBV. Her efforts continue to inspire progress and strengthen collective action against this societal menace.”

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack reaffirmed her commitment to creating a safe and secure environment for civil servants and all Nigerians. She emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach in tackling GBV, stating, “Part of living a good life is ensuring that we feel safe and secure—whether at home, in the workplace, or wherever we find ourselves.”

Mrs. Walson-Jack highlighted the alignment of the GBV campaign with global human rights principles, stressing the need for sustained collective efforts to eliminate violence in all forms. She expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying, “As a child, I always aspired to be a champion—championing the rights of women, the girl-child, and now, ending violence against all, including men. This recognition strengthens my resolve.”

She also commended the Permanent Secretary and the Ministry for their pivotal role in the fight against GBV and called on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and civil society groups to intensify their collaboration with the Ministry to reduce GBV to its barest minimum.

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing gender equality and ensuring the safety and dignity of all Nigerians.
