The International Commission on Dynamical Meteorology (ICDM) hosted its 2024 Workshop, themed “Linking Weather and Climate Dynamics Across Scales” from October 14-18, 2024 at the prestigious Nanjing University International Conference Center in China.

The workshop brought together leading global experts, researchers, and thought leaders to explore the interconnections between weather and climate systems across various spatial and temporal scales, ranging from localised weather patterns to global climate dynamics.

Dr. Eniola Ajani Olaniyan, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies at the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, contributed significantly to the workshop with a presentation titled, “Enhancing Heavy Rainfall Forecasting in High-Resolution Regional Models Over West Africa for Operational Application”.
In his presentation he highlighted advancements in forecasting accuracy for the West African region, emphasising the practical applications of high-resolution regional models in predicting severe weather events.

The workshop underscored the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration between meteorology, climate science, and related fields. Through discussions, presentations of cutting-edge research, and the establishment of new partnerships, the event served as a platform for advancing the global understanding of weather and climate interactions.

ICDM 2024 also reinforced the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges posed by weather and climate variability, with a shared commitment to improving prediction capabilities and resilience in the face of a changing global climate.
