“Continuous Qualitative Training is Imperative for Staff of Organisations That Wish to Continue in Perpetuity,” says UI DVC

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of the University of Ibadan, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, fspsp, FNPA, has stated that an organisation is as good as the quality of its staff.
This, he said, explains why the University of Ibadan continuously trains its workers.
Professor Olapegba spoke at the official opening of a 5-day workshop for 45 Teaching and 50 Non-Teaching Staff of the University organised by the MacArthur Grant Liaison Office and Digital Bridge Institute.
He said that any organisation that wishes to continue in perpetuity must always train its workforce because the dynamics of the workplace are constantly changing, and staff needed to be able to adapt.
Professor Olapegba said that the University of Ibadan is known for excellence, adding that the present set of workers needed to be able to hand over the culture of excellence to the coming generations.
The DVC noted that ICT is the in-thing and urged the participants to improve their online presence in order to make the University more visible.
The Director of the Research Management Office, Professor A. S. Jegede, while welcoming the participants, noted that without digital knowledge, it will be difficult for any higher institution to make a headway.
He stated that the University of Ibadan will fare better on the global scene when its staff are digitally knowledgeable.
The Registrar, Mr Ganiyu O. Saliu was represented by the Senior Deputy Registrar, General Administration, Mr I. A. Akinbola who commended the MacArthur Grant Liaison Office for organising the workshop to build the capacity of the staff.
He stated that developments in ICT make it imperative for staff to be well trained to deploy the ICT tools.
Mr Akinbola said he was confident that the workshop would help broaden the knowledge of participants, improve their skills, and managerial abilities.
Goodwill messages were received from the Bursar, Mr A. Popoola; the University Librarian, Dr. Mercy A. Iroaganachi; the Acting Director of Audit, Mr. O. J. Folorunso, and the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor O. O. Sonibare who was ably represented by the Director of Academic Planning, Professor A. E. Ayodele. A representative of DBI, Mr Olaleye Adegbenro also charged the participants to make the most of the training which was provided pro-bono by his institute.
Participants will be exposed to Digital Skills, Cybersecurity and emerging technology, and data analysis using SPSS and Microsoft Power BI.
