The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has commended President Bola Tinubu for his recent address calling for dialogue and an end to protests.
In a statement, CISLAC’s Executive Director, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, praised the President’s recognition of the grievances driving the protests and his commitment to listening to and addressing citizens’ concerns.
President Tinubu emphasized the need for unity and collective effort in reshaping Nigeria’s future, urging all Nigerians to work together regardless of age, political affiliation, tribe, or religion.
CISLAC expressed support for the President’s stance against ethnic division and threats, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace, law, and order while upholding human rights.
However, CISLAC also cautioned the government against linking protests to political agendas, urging instead a focus on inclusively improving the economy to address deep poverty affecting millions of Nigerians.
The organization called on security operatives to respect human rights and maintain peace, law, and order in accordance with international conventions.
CISLAC also urged all stakeholders to heed the President’s call for dialogue, emphasizing the importance of open and constructive conversations in addressing the underlying causes of unrest and finding sustainable solutions.
