The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, has praised the Medical Women Association of Nigerian, Cross River Chapter, for their benevolence in healthcare delivery and sensitisation.
Prof. Obi gave the commendation on Tuesday in Calabar when the Executive Members of the Association paid her a courtesy visit in her office.
She described the Association as ‘unique‘, adding that she was proud of them and what the body stands for as they have been saving lives through their screening, outreaches and sensitization activities.
“I want to thank you for the charity work, the outreaches and screening you have been doing to improve the health of citizens in the larger society and even here in UNICAL.” She said.
The Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to appeal to the Association not to relent in their efforts and obligations and encouraged them to do more in the area of sensitization.
While assuring them of her accessibility, the VC pledged to continue to render her support in any way she can to the association.
Earlier, the President of the Association, Dr Vivien Otu, commended the VC for her giant strides since taking over as the first female Vice Chancellor of the institution despite the challenges in the educational sector.
She used the occasion to inform the VC of the Association’s forthcoming Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference slated for December 29, 2022.
She also used the occasion to inform members of the public on the need to visit the Women’s Clinic at Moore Road in Calabar for free cancer screening holding throughout the month of October.
