A support group, Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV), has expressed confidence in the safe return of students and teachers abducted by suspected terrorists in Oyo State, while commending President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards as part of efforts to address the security challenge.
The group also praised other measures approved by the Federal Government to secure the release of the victims and strengthen security in the affected communities.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, TMV welcomed the recent visit of a high-powered Federal Government delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to the affected communities.
According to the group, the visit underscored the administration’s commitment to resolving the hostage situation and ensuring the safety of the kidnapped students and teachers.
TMV noted that following the attack, which sparked outrage and protests across the country, President Tinubu approved a series of interventions aimed at rescuing the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The measures, it said, include the immediate recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in collaboration with the Oyo State Government, consideration for the establishment of a military outpost in the area, and the deployment of a specialised security unit to track and apprehend the terrorists.
The group described the steps as evidence of the President’s empathy for the victims and a demonstration of his administration’s determination to protect lives and property.
“We believe that with the wide-ranging steps approved by President Tinubu, the President has shown empathy for the victims and demonstrated his administration’s commitment towards guaranteeing the safety of all citizens,” the statement said.
TMV further argued that while the measures may be temporary, they could pave the way for broader security reforms, including the eventual establishment of state police across the country.
The group also commended President Tinubu’s position that no child should become a victim of kidnapping or be denied access to education because of insecurity.
According to the statement, the President’s stance reflects his commitment to the welfare, safety and educational future of Nigerian children.
TMV urged Nigerians to regard security as a collective responsibility and support ongoing government efforts to combat kidnapping, terrorism and other forms of criminality.
The group expressed optimism that the measures already put in place would aid the safe rescue of the abducted victims and contribute to long-term security improvements in the affected areas.
