At a time when Nigerians are suffering, dealing with high cost of foodstuff, irregular supply of electricity, poor infrastructure, not-too-good roads, poor state of health and school facilities, the alarming rate of unemployment in our society, the spate of killings, violence and insecurity across the country traumatizing the helpless citizenry, unending criminalities arising from corruption, killings, cultism, rape, kidnappings, armed robbery, poverty, unemployment, hopelessness, the Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim distributed palliatives to support two thousand underprivileged families in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Nigeria.
This she said was in commemoration of her inauguration as Minister of Youth and Development by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She expressed that her appointment wasn’t a best time to celebrate rather sober and find a lasting solutions to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians
Dr Ibrahim made this known at a prayer and lecture session held respectively at the National Christian Center and the National Mosque Abuja on Saturday 28th October 2023 in Abuja with the theme: Unity in Patriotism – praying for a stronger citizenship.
Instead of throwing a party over her appointment, the minister dedicated her appointment to God Almighty and appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding her worthy of the appointment and promised not to fail him and Nigerians at large
“I’ll, in God’s name, be servant-minister for the entire citizenry irrespective of gender, faith and ethnicity.
“I understand the economic challenges that Nigerians are confronted with as such I decided to give palliative to household instead of hosting a party ”
“My appointment is an amanah (a trust) bestowed on me which I consider not easy but will be easy by the grace of God and by everyone’s prayers and support. Leadership is a burden knowing I will get maximum support and prayers, gives me a bit relief. Representing 75% of Nigerian’s population many of whom are living below the poverty line, I assured I will do my best not to fail you all.”
The time for celebration will definitely come. But, let me first of all fulfill my duties and mandate then we all can celebrate my success and merry. She added.
Addressing guest at the National Mosque, the Honourable Minister explained that she decided to share palliatives instead of organising parties because she believes that her appointment is a call to serve and she will stand before her Lord and give account on how she ruled as a minister.
“We will celebrate after I fulfill the mandate given to me”, she stated.
Arch Bishop Peter Ogunmuyiwa, President, of FCT Baptist Conference Revd Dogara Raphael Gwana, Assistant Chief Imam His Grace Fuad Adeyemi and Mrs Maryam Lemu who all spoke at the event urged Nigerians to believe in God, be religious tolerant, pray and support the Tinubu led administration and urged the minister not to fail Nigeria as much is expected from her.
