Youth Delegates Across the World arrives Abuja for CYSS Africa 2023

The Federal Government of Nigeria through its Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, has finalized preparation to receive delegates from 21 Commonwealth African Countries who will be attending this year’s Commonwealth Youth and Students’ Summit (CYSS) for Africa Region from the 8th to 12th of this month.

The Summit seeks to create an avenue where crucial conversations about strengthening and promoting the leadership capacity of youths and student leaders in the Commonwealth can be initiated and advanced with actionable outcomes, and with a prime focus on the role student and youth leaders can and should play to realize.

The young people’s strength and potentials are increasingly been recognised and appreciated in the Commonwealth. This is demonstrated by the active and inclusive participation of the young people in every process of decision making at various levels in the Commonwealth, and this forum is one of the big examples.

The Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030, particularly, with respect to SDG 4 which addresses Quality Education, with the aim of  “Ensuring Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education and promoting Lifelong Learning” by 2030.

There is nothing for the youth without the youth, any youth-less decision is useless, and we are convinced that Commonwealth’s decisions process are useful as it has been youthful. The bond of friendship and brotherhood of the Common family is further bonded among the largest ever youth generation in the Commonwealth.

The Summit, which has been set aside as part of the programs to mark the 2023 Year of Youth has adopted the theme: Co-creating our Common Future: Leadership in the Digital Age. It would be held from May 8-12 at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel (formerly Sheraton Abuja Hotel), Abuja

According to one of the participants, Standhope Jasper,
“On behalf of the Abia South Senatorial District at The Nigerian Youth Parliament, headed by our distinguished Speaker, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Azeezat Yishawu , I welcome all delegates from the Commonwealth Students’ Association, the Commonwealth Youth Council and the Pan-African Youth Union,  Particularly, the Africa Regional Representative of the Commonwealth Students’ Association, a proud Nigerian and true son of the soil, Mr. Francis Uche Azubuike”.

Jasper further expressed gratitude to the Youth Minister, the taskforce and other stakeholders saying “I take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, H.E. Mr. Sunday Akin Dare for his continued support for youth-led initiatives and development around the Commonwealth; the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth & Sports Development, Nigeria , Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar for his fatherly support towards the Summit; my brother and friend, Hon Marwan Umar Gwamba , the Summit Taskforce Coordinator who also represents the vast majority interest of the good youths of Kebbi North Senatorial District at the Nigerian Youth Parliament for his tireless efforts in ensuring that the Summit is a reality”.

“This is an international forum in the entire world where young people interact with the heads of government and make direct inputs in to the heads of government’s commitments”, Standhope concluded.
