WE DID NOT EMPLOY ODUBIYI- INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said the claims that the electoral body appointed Odubiyi to its payroll is false.

The claim was made recently by former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Bode George who had alleged that the former commissioner is the new head of ICT at INEC.

In a statement made available to News Dot Africa on Tuesday, the Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said the claim by the PDP chieftain is false, adding that INEC staff were non-partisan and have not occupied any political position in the past.

“Nothing can be farther from the truth. To set the record straight, the name ‘Femi Odubiyi’ does not even exist within our ICT Department at the INEC headquarters in Abuja or any state office of the Commission”, Okoye said.

He further explained that ICT staff members were career officers of the Commission,

In a statement on Sunday, Mr Bode George said the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, must remove Odubiyi as the Commission’s ICT head because of his closeness to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress and President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

He said the first thing Yakubu must do was to explain to Nigerians how the former Commissioner for Science and Technology in Lagos State allegedly found his way into INEC as head of ICT, “a critical department before, during and after elections.”
