UI Management Team visits UCH and College of Medicine to assess damage.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has led a UI Management team to the University College Hospital and the College of Medicine over the damage caused by the explosion that occurred in Ibadan last week.
Professor Adebowale said the team was in UCH to commiserate with the hospital management and in the College of Medicine to assess the damage caused by the explosion.
He disclosed that the offices of the University’s Centre for Sustainable Development/Distance Learning Centre at Bodija and the buildings of the Centre for Entrepreneurship were very badly affected by the blast
The team was received by the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, Professor Jesse A. Otegbayo and other key officers of the UCH.
The CMD who described the blast as a very sad occurrence said the UCH was badly affected as many of its structures were damaged, adding that more and more damage was being discovered upon the opening of more offices.
He appreciated the UI Management for the visit while noting that the UCH is the Laboratory of the College of Medicine and one cannot exist without the other even though the two organisations are under the supervision of two different federal ministries.
The Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Olayinka Omigbodun, FAS, later conducted the UI Management Team round the damaged structures.
Ceilings, window panes, glass doors, and electrical wiring were shattered or torn off in some buildings, while obvious cracks were noticed on some, thus putting the integrity of the structures into question.
The affected buildings included the Oluwole Akande Building, B. O. Osuntokun Paul Hendrickse Lecture Halls, College of Medicine Education Building, Clinical Sciences Building, Alexander Brown Hall and Carta Building, and the Immunology Building.
Others were the Ayodele Falase Postgraduate Hall, IAMRAT Building, Department of Virology, Oladele Ajose Building, and the Dental Centre.
