TMV Commends UBEC for Mobilising, Disbursing N100bn in Unaccessed Education Grants

The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has commended the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for mobilising and disbursing N100 billion in previously unaccessed matching grants to states, describing the initiative as a major milestone in strengthening basic education across Nigeria.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group said the intervention demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving access to quality education despite the inability of some states to provide the required counterpart funding.
TMV noted that the achievement formed part of UBEC’s 2025–2031 Strategic Blueprint, which has already recorded significant progress in the education sector. According to the group, the commission has constructed about 4,600 classrooms, renovated more than 6,100 classrooms, provided 2,780 toilets and 678 boreholes, while distributing over 334,000 pieces of school furniture nationwide.
The group explained that states are ordinarily required to contribute 40 per cent counterpart funding before accessing UBEC matching grants.
However, many states had failed to meet this obligation over the years, leaving substantial education funds unutilised.
It praised the commission for successfully mobilising the N100 billion in unaccessed grants, describing the move as a bold intervention that would accelerate the delivery of basic education projects across the country.
TMV also attributed the progress to the reforms being implemented under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that institutional changes within UBEC had strengthened transparency, project monitoring and data-driven decision-making.
The group further applauded the Federal Government for approving the release of the funds despite the inability of the affected states to fulfil their counterpart funding obligations, describing the decision as unprecedented and a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to investing in the education of Nigeria’s future generations.
According to TMV, the development underscores the Tinubu administration’s resolve to ensure that no child is denied access to improved learning facilities because of funding constraints at the sub-national level.
