TIPSOM HOLDS 3-DAY TRAINING FOR NIGERIA IMMIGRATION OFFICERS ON LEGISLATION AND IMMIGRATION ACT

As part of the project, Action Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (A-TIPSOM), which is funded by European Union, the International and Ibero-America Foundation for Administration and Public Policy (FIIAPP) is organizing a three-day training for Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), officers on Immigration Legislation and Act.
Participants were majorly instructors from the various training institutions of Nigeria Immigration Service with a blend of other core officers from the Service Headquarters and the FCT Command who were carefully selected to ensure that knowledge gathered is transferred to other officers of the Service with similar job description.
Spokesperson of the service, DCI James noted that the aim of the training is to ensure participants have in-depth knowledge of what it entails to deliver on their mandate, taking into cognizance the provisions of the Immigration Act 2015 and the Immigration Regulations 2017 that are key to day to day operational activities of the Service.
The first workshop on Immigration Act 2015 and Immigration Regulations 2017 was held on 8th and 9th December 2020 for senior officers of Nigeria Immigration Service, and the second workshop holding between 18th to 20th Jan, 2021 is meant to acquaint participants with provisions of the Immigration Act 2015 and the Immigration Regulations 2017, as it relates to Migration, Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons; also update participants’ knowledge on the applicability of the provisions of the day-to-day operations as Law Enforcement Agents for onward transfer to trainees
CGI Muhammad Babandede, MFR, who declared the event open noted the essence of participant’s open mindedness towards assimilating the Immigration Act 2015 and the Immigration Regulations 2017 for the benefit of the Service and the nation in general. He added that every action taken by an officer of the Service, has a way of affecting migration management and control, issuance of visa and regulation of human mobility. He emphasized on the need for skill development in fighting organized crimes like Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and Smuggling of Migrants (SOM).
