SWS 2022:Cross River NAWOJ Chairperson Bags Double Awards, Dedicates To Other Women

Known for her advocacy and humanitarian works, the Chairperson of Stand up for Women Society (SWS) Cross River State chapter, who also doubles as the Chairperson, Cross River chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Umo Bassey Edet has bagged ‘Most Outstanding SWS Chairperson 2022’ at the 1st National Conference and Summit of SWS tagged: Women in Leadership; Balancing Societal obligation with marital and parental responsibilities held in Lekki, Lagos.

The Stand up for Women Society is an association that is geared toward ensuring women are recognized and given opportunities to take up the mantle of leadership in key areas of the country.

Presenting the Outstanding Award to Bassey, the National President of SWS, Liberator Deborah Ijadele-Adetona, described Bassey as an icon of societal transformation.

She said the award was in recognition of her outstanding commitment to excellence, Ideas generation, passion, commitment to the vision and mission of the society, and great contribution towards ensuring that women are also allowed to contribute their quota to the growth of Cross River State.

In addition, the effervescent damsel was also presented the ‘2nd Position Award’ in activities as the best organized, well cultured and formidable during the inauguration of its chapter in the year 2021.

Speaking on being a recipient of two awards, Bassey said: “I am glad to be the recipient of the “Most Outstanding Chairperson Award” at the 1st National SWS Conference and Summit”. Big Thanks to everyone that voted. May God honor you.

“I will continue to be your vessel and commit my energy and resources to see the world as a better place. I dedicate this to every woman out there doing something exceptional and making change happen with little or nothing.” She added.

She also described the award as a motivating factor that most of the time encourages people to do more. She, therefore, said that she will not relent on her oars to use whatever within her capacity for the development of women, Cross River State, and Nigeria at large.

Recall that a few months ago, Bassey sued for increased collaboration to stop every form of, “segregation, discrimination, and stereotype against women, as well as put an end to biases bordering on gender discrimination.
