Shippers Council holds summit on Anti-Corruption in Maritime Sector
The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), and other agencies of the Federal Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with the Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC) are organising a One-Day Summit on anti-corruption.
The summit has the theme “Zero Tolerance for Corruption in the Maritime sector.”
The Summit is expected to have in attendance His Excellency President Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alh. Muhammadu Buhari, The Ghanaian President, His Excellency President Nana Akufo-Addo, legislature, Financial institutions, critical stakeholders in the Maritime Industry.
The summit that will also feature a road walk at EFCC Zonal Office Wuse 11, Abuja, will hold at the Banquet Hall State House Aso Rock Abuja December 9, 2019.
The maritime and transport sectors are strong catalysts for socio-economic development of any nation particularly as it concerns businesses, markets, countries and people/citizens.
The summit is based on the challenge that despite the gains recorded in the fight against corruption in all sectors of the economy, the maritime transport sector has remained vulnerable to unwholesome practices. Capital flight and fiscal leakages that have plagued the sector is worrisome.
The objective of the joint Summit, therefore, is to highlight the areas of corrupt practices in the sector and collectively develop strategies to curb the menace threatening the economies of most African nations.
It is expected that a roadmap that would reduce considerably corrupt practices would be generated at the end of the Summit as well as sustainable structures that will guarantee predictability, efficiency and transparency in the industry.
