A Salute to Dedication:

Welcoming 2024

Dear Esteemed Members of the INEC Press Corps,

As the calendar turns a new leaf, marking the dawn of another promising year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey we have shared in the year that was. It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside such a dedicated group of professionals in 2023. Your unrelenting commitment to delivering factual and timely information has been a cornerstone of our democratic process.

The past year was filled with its unique challenges and triumphs, and through it all, you have excelled, not just as journalists, but as guardians of truth and facilitators of informed engagement. As we bid farewell to 2023, I am filled with gratitude for your hard work, resilience, and the unwavering integrity that defines our corps.

The role you play is nothing short of sacred, as information is the bedrock upon which the temple of democracy is built. Your reports give voice to the voiceless, power to the electorate, and accountability to those elected. The trust placed in us to uphold these values is a profound responsibility, and your performance has been exemplary.

As we look ahead to 2024, the horizon is already dotted with key democratic engagements, especially in Ondo and Edo States, along with various bye-elections. These are not just events; they are opportunities for us to facilitate a robust democratic process and ensure the will of the people is heard and respected. I invite you all to bring forth the same passion, integrity, and excellence as we step into these forthcoming assignments.

In the year to come, I ask for your continued input, your insightful reporting, and your dedication to the truth. Let us work together to set the standard for electoral journalism, ensuring that every citizen is well-informed and every vote is counted and reported with the utmost accuracy.

Here’s to a new year filled with promise, growth, and the pursuit of journalistic excellence. May 2024 be a year where we not only meet the expectations set before us but exceed them in service to our nation.

Happy New Year!

Warm regards,

Segun Ojumu
