Rivers State Government Enhances National Security with Helicopter Donation to Nigerian Air Force

In a significant move to enhance national security, the Rivers State Government has donated an AgustaWestland (AW) 139 helicopter to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). This donation aims to support the Federal Government’s efforts to protect critical national infrastructure in the Niger Delta region.

Enhancing Security and Economic Stability
Governor Siminalayi Fubara emphasized that the donation aligns with his administration’s commitment to supporting the NAF and other security agencies. The goal is to protect lives, safeguard critical infrastructure, and sustain economic stability.

On the advanced capabilities of the AW139 Helicopter, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, highlighted the AW139’s advanced avionics, high-speed capabilities, and versatility. These features will enhance the NAF’s capacity for rapid response missions.Comprehensive Training and Maintenance
The Air Force has begun comprehensive training for pilots, engineers, and technicians to ensure the helicopter’s effective deployment. Efforts are also underway to strengthen maintenance infrastructure, ensuring the helicopter’s long-term operational efficiency.

Commitment to National Defence
Air Marshal Abubakar expressed appreciation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to modernizing the NAF. Ongoing fleet expansion and infrastructure upgrades have significantly bolstered operational readiness, reaffirming the government’s dedication to a stronger national defence.

Multi-Faceted Approach to Security
The NAF has prioritized the deployment of newly acquired T-129 ATAK helicopters for combat operations against illegal oil bunkering and crude oil theft. Additionally, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and other cutting-edge surveillance and strike platforms have been deployed to bolster security operations.
