PRESIDENT TINUBU’S 66TH INDEPENDENCE ADDRESS: FROM REFORM TO PROSPERITY… 10 Major Takeaways For Nigerians

In his historic Independence Day Address to the nation on October 1st, 2026, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, titled *”FROM REFORM TO PROSPERITY”*, declared that Nigeria has entered a new chapter. Here are the 10 major points for all Nigerians:

*1. Celebration of Nigeria’s Resilience:* Mr. President celebrated 66 years of our flag as a free and sovereign nation, praising the indomitable spirit of Nigerians — the farmer, the trader, the teacher, the entrepreneur, and our gallant Armed Forces who have kept Nigeria enduring through war, military rule and economic crises.

*2. The Promise of Independence Restated:* He reminded us that independence was not just for a flag and anthem, but for the freedom to shape our own destiny and build a nation that provides opportunity, dignity and a better life for all.

*3. The Difficult Reforms Are Over:* For the past three years, the administration’s overriding purpose was to correct Nigeria’s economic course. President Tinubu declared: *”The emergency treatment is over. The foundation has been repaired.”*

*4. Nigeria Has Crossed Its Red Sea:* Mr. President declared that Nigeria has passed through its own Red Sea and has now moved beyond the most difficult phase of the reforms. The nation must not look back.

*5. A Shift From Reform to Prosperity:* The central economic task has now changed. From correcting the course, the new purpose is simple and clear: *”Shared and Widespread Prosperity”* for every Nigerian.

*6. Focus on Cost of Living:* The next phase will focus on reducing the cost of living by lowering the cost of producing and transporting goods and services across the country.

*7. Job Creation and Industrial Expansion:* The Age of Prosperity will prioritize massive job creation, supporting businesses, expanding food production, reviving industries and strengthening infrastructure.

*8. Acknowledgment of Sacrifices:* Mr. President acknowledged that the journey has been too hard for too many, but assured that the sacrifices of Nigerians over the last three years were necessary to put the economy on a sustainable path.

*9. Call for Unity and Hope:* He called on all Nigerians to continue to believe in Nigeria, to remain patriotic, united and hopeful, because a greater Nigeria is possible.

*10. Renewed Faith in Nigeria’s Greatness:* He reaffirmed his belief that Nigeria, with its size, bountiful resources, cultural diversity and extraordinary people, will become a giant in Africa and a nation of global consequence.
