The Nigeria Police Force have dismissed the reports that the Tuesday attack and abduction on travellers along the Ogoja-Ikom-Calabar Highway was carried out by herdsmen.

This was made known to the public by the Police Spokesperson in Cross River State, Supol Irene Ugbo after 8 of the nine people who were abducted were released.

Supol Ugbo, who also said that the kidnappers were all arrested and paraded at the Force Headquarters, didn’t rescue the other person due to the fact that he had managed to escape from the abductors.

She said: “Eight of the victims are now in safe hands while the ninth person escaped.
“Reports that the kidnap was carried out by herdsmen are untrue; it was purely an armed robbery incident,’’ she said.
Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Sule Balarabe had immediately deployed a tactical team, including men of the Police Anti-kidnap squad to the area.

The driver whose vehicle was attacked said on Tuesday that nine persons were abducted by the gunmen on the highway between Okomita and Uyanga communities in Akamkpa Local Government Area, near Calabar, Cross River State Capital.
