The race to replace Amaju Pinnick as the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is heating up as two more candidates made their intentions known yesterday, August 31, 2022 in Abuja.

Former Nigerian international Idah Peterside and Abba Yola who is currently the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Youths and Sports both promised a complete revamp of Nigerian football.

Yola, who many described as a ‘system man’ promised to turn around the face of football in the country in two years and will resign from the position if there are no palpable achievements around the same time.

Peterside on the other hand promised to invest heavily in grassroot football through the state Football Associations and pledged to bring the Nigerian League back on television.

Both men are the latest bigwigs to declare for the top football job in the country as the first Vice President of the NFF and the chairman of Lagos State Football Association, Seyi Akinwunmi, League Management Company Chairman, Shehu Dikko, current NFF Executive Committee Member Ibrahim Gusau, former NFF scribe Musa Ahmadu, NFF security expert Christian Emeruwa and Ex- internationals Benedict Akwuegb and Jonathan Akpoborie have all declared their intention to run.

The NFF elective congress is scheduled to take place in Benin City, Edo State on Friday, September 30, 2022 where the NFF Congress is expected to elect a new NFF executive committee and a new NFF President.

Pinnick has been the President of the Federation for eight years, the longest by anyone in history.
