PDP Organising Secretary escapes assassination attempt

Organizing Sectary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Cross River State- Nigeria, Mr Francis Ekeng has escaped assassination attempt by hoodlums who are suspected to be political thugs.

The suspected political thugs reportedly invaded Ekeng’s house on Sunday evening in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the State but met his absence.

A reliable source said the unnumbered thugs destroyed Ekeng’s properties worth millions of naira as well as stabbed his security guard to coma.

Ekeng was said to have taken his family to the church and later attended a birthday party.

“The entire family)went to church yesterday (Sunday) and thankfully, a friend had a birthday that they also attended, else, the entire family would have been killed.

“The thugs got to his house, met the security guard and attacked him. The guard’s life is on the verge as he was stabbed severally by the thugs. His (Ekeng’s) car and several household properties were also destroyed by the thugs.

“We don’t know why they came to attack Ekeng, because he has been friendly and helpful to the community”, the source said.

Other eyewitnesses claimed that the thugs were heavily armed with weapons such as machetes, planks and firearms.

“He (Ekeng) has reported the matter to the police”, an anonymous source said.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo on the phone proved abortive as she did not take or return her calls on two occasions – at the time of filing this report.
