Pakistani High Commission in Nigeria Marks Defence Day with Ceremony, Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Sovereignty

The Pakistani High Commission in Nigeria has commemorated Defence Day with a heartfelt ceremony, honoring the sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and reaffirming the nation’s dedication to protecting its sovereignty and supporting global peace initiatives.

In his opening remarks, the High Commissioner Retired Major-General Sohail Khan extended a warm welcome to all attendees, emphasizing the importance of the day.

“Today, we celebrate Defence Day to honor the sacrifices and service of the Armed Forces of Pakistan,” High Commissioner Khan stated.

He highlighted the significant role Pakistan plays in global peacekeeping, noting, “Pakistan’s Armed Forces rank as the fifth largest in the world and have been the leading contributors to United Nations peacekeeping missions since the 1960s, participating in 46 missions across 29 different countries.”

High Commissioner Khan also paid tribute to the Pakistani soldiers who have lost their lives in the fight against terrorism.

“Many of our brave soldiers have embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, defending our homeland from both internal and external threats,” he said.

He reiterated Pakistan’s status as a “responsible nuclear state,” emphasizing the country’s strong command and control systems under the Armed Forces’ management.

The High Commissioner dedicated the day to honoring the martyrs and the members of the Armed Forces for their unwavering commitment and sacrifices.

Also speaking, the Defence Advisor Col. Kamran Mushtaq reflected on the meaning of Defence Day.

“September 6th symbolizes our nation’s unity, courage, and readiness to defend our country’s sovereignty at all costs,” he remarked.

Col. Mushtaq underscored the day’s importance as a tribute to the nation’s heroes who gave their lives in service to Pakistan.

“We remain resolute and fully prepared to face any external or internal challenges, safeguarding both our ideological and geographical boundaries,” he affirmed

He urged everyone to renew their commitment to Pakistan’s defense.

The event which gathered Nigerian dignitaries, diplomats, and members of the Pakistani community in Nigeria, concluded with a message of unity and hope.

“May Allah Almighty guide and protect us all,” Col. Mushtaq declared, closing with a resounding tribute: “Long Live the Armed Forces of Pakistan. Long Live Pakistan. Long Live Nigeria.”

The event highlighted the strong ties between Pakistan and Nigeria, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional and global peace.
