As Kashmir Black Day is marked on October 27, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Nigeria, Mr. Sohail Ahmad Khan, has issued a powerful statement condemning the longstanding injustices faced by Kashmiris.

The statement, shared today with journalists in Abuja, highlights the ongoing human rights crisis in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for the international community to act in support of Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination.

“Kashmir Black Day is a solemn commemoration that underscores the plight of the Kashmiri people and reaffirms their right to self-determination,” Mr. Khan remarked.

He noted that Kashmiris worldwide observe the day as a reminder of the unfulfilled promises of freedom, dignity, and democratic choice outlined in numerous United Nations resolutions.

These resolutions affirm that the future of Jammu and Kashmir should be decided by its people through a free, fair, and UN-supervised plebiscite.

According to Mr. Khan, the region has been turned into the “world’s most militarized zone,” where civilians face daily restrictions on their freedoms.

He described the current situation as a humanitarian and human rights crisis, urging action to end what he termed the “rule of tyranny and oppression” in Jammu and Kashmir.

The High Commissioner called on global entities including the UN, civil society organizations, human rights groups, and media outlets to play an active role in advocating for the rights of Kashmiris.

“The global community must not turn a blind eye. It’s time to fulfill obligations towards Kashmiris, ensuring they can live free from oppression,” he appealed.

Mr. Khan reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to standing with the Kashmiri people and amplifies the call for a just, peaceful resolution. Kashmir Black Day remains a potent reminder of the international community’s responsibility to uphold justice and protect the basic rights of all people, including those in Jammu and Kashmir.
