Human migration is the movement of people from one place to another with intentions of settling, permanently or temporarily, at a new location (geographic region). The movement often occurs over long distances and from one country to another, but internal migration (within a single country) is also possible; indeed, this is the dominant form of human migration globally.
Migration is often associated with better human capital at both individual and household level, and with better access to migration networks, facilitating a possible second move. Age is also important for both work and non-work migration.People may migrate as individuals, in families, etc
There are four types of Migration: Internal migration moving within a State country or continent.
External migration moving to a different state, country or continent.
Emigration leaving one country to move to another.
Immigration moving into a new country.
Under international law, migrants have human rights by virtue of their humanity international customary law and international human rights instruments are of universal application and there for set state duties and rights of migrants. These includes the right to protect boarders, to confer nationality,to admit and expel foreigners, to combat trafficking and smuggling and to safeguard national security.
According to the International Organisation of Migration (IOM), major on migration borders on Labour migration. Labour migration is defined as Movement of persons from one state to another, or within their own country of residence, for the purpose of employment.
This includes movement of persons from one state to another, or within their own country.
Labour migration is addressed by most States in their migration laws. In addition, some States take an active role in regulating outward labour migration and seeking opportunities for their nationals abroad.
