NiMet Hosts Stakeholders’ Forum to Enhance Climate Risk Awareness and Early Action

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), recently convened its inaugural Stakeholders’ Forum, themed “Early Warnings: Raising Awareness on Climate Risks and Promoting Early Action.” The event, held at the Admiralty Event and Conference Centre in Lagos, brought together stakeholders from various sectors to discuss climate risks and early warning systems.
Speaking, Director General of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike emphasized the importance of raising awareness on climate risks and promoting early action to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events.
The the DG highlighted NiMet’s efforts in providing reliable early warnings to support decision-making in various sectors, including aviation, agriculture, and disaster risk reduction. He stressed the need for partnerships and collaborations to enhance its services and products, particularly in the face of climate change.
The Agency showcased its Digital Climate Advisory Services (DCAS), which aim to provide actionable weather and climate information to the wider society.
The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change and improve food security, climate-smart sustainable development, and disaster risk reduction. NiMet’s Director-General/CEO, Professor Charles Anosike, emphasized the need for continuous investments to sustain its services and improve overall service delivery.
