The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has reaffirmed its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, extortion, and falsification in the modification of National Identification Numbers (NIN) data. This comes after reports emerged of enrollment agents in Abuja collecting money from applicants to falsify dates of birth

A press release signed by the Head, Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, reiterates that all NIN data modifications are done online through the NIMC self-service modification portal ((link unavailable)), with no physical modifications allowed.

The statement also clarifies that it does not have agents for data modification, emphasizing the need for applicants to use the official online portal, while NIN holders are urged to report cases of extortion or misconduct through official channels, including phone numbers (+234-9-134959433, 08155015388) and email addresses (actu@nimc.gov.ng, ieu@nimc.gov.ng).

The Commission reassures the public that the integrity of the National Identity Database remains secure and will continue to prioritize transparency, accountability, and trust in Nigeria’s identity management system.
