Nigeria’s problems are not complex, but complicated – Prince Adebayo
Emmanuel Alfred
Prince Adewole Adebayo, who is the Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the 2023 Elections believes that the problems of the country are not complex but they are only complicated.
This he said when responding to the citizens on the programme, “City Talks” hosted by veteran broadcast journalist Ruben Abati.
He said, “Nigeria’s problems are not that difficult. They look complex but when you look at them as a technocrat and someone who has a burning desire to solve them, you will realize that they are only complicated.
“They are complicated because selfish individuals have found their way into the hem of affairs and have unfortunately used the office to enrich themselves and their cohorts thereby dragging this great nation to the ground.”
He added that the basic responsibility of setting up of a government that is functioning involves securing the country, hiring the best minds to lead the cabinet and let them be supervised by the Chief of Staff and the Secretary to the Federal Government; account for the revenue generated by the government and use projections to expand the revenue base. Then use the office of the Auditor-General and the Accountant-General to monitor them.
He also said, “when these mechanisms are put in place, your government is sure of being properly run with minimal issues and will then foster growth for the general public.”
On the issue of being a political outsider who is not experienced, the legal luminary said, “I joined the SDP in 1992 and have been there for over 30 years. So I have been always involved in politicking and campaigning.
“Even when M. K. O. Abiola was campaigning for the Presidency in 1993, I was involved as a student in the campaigns and was even involved in the protests after the elections were annulled. I have a little knowledge of how these things work.”
He also added that you don’t have to be “experienced” in politics to be a competent leader citing examples of “outsiders” who made impact including Abiola who was an accountant and in private practice before running for office.
He further mentioned Obafemi Awolowo, Mike Opara and even the former Prime Minister, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa who had no foreknowledge of politics or working in the corridors of power before being appointed to function in those roles which they did properly.
“I was never in public office before but my life has always been in the public and those who know me and have worked with me know that I am a person of integrity who will not deviate from the core values that our great party, the SDP represents.” He enthused.
He then said the country is in dire need of independent minds who have made a name for themselves in creating wealth and understand the problems of the country and how to solve them to lead the nation.
