Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Ministry Mourns Diplomat Zainab Joy Momodu

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja has announced the sudden demise of Mrs. Zainab Joy Momodu, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Nigeria in Guinea-Bissau. She passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Military Hospital in Bissau after a brief illness.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Momodu’s immediate family, colleagues, and friends.

Mrs. Momodu joined the Nigerian Foreign Service in 2010 as a member of the 20th Regular Course of the Foreign Service Academy. She served Nigeria with distinction, commitment, and professionalism in various capacities, earning recognition for her contributions to Nigeria’s foreign relations.

At the time of her passing, Mrs. Momodu held the position of Acting Head of Mission at the Embassy of Nigeria in Guinea-Bissau.

The Ministry describes her death as a profound loss to the Foreign Service, the diplomatic community, and the nation.

According to the MFA Spokesperson, Ambassador Kimiebi Imomotimi funeral arrangements will be announced by Mrs. Momodu’s family in due course.
