Nigerian Diaspora wins Outstanding Leadership Award in North Wales, UK

A Nigerian leaving in the United Kingdom, Dr Salamatu Fada received award recently from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, North Wales.

Salamatu who is the President of North Wales Africa Society was presented with the award by the North Wales Police & Crime Commissioner, Andy Dunbobbin in recognition exemplary leadership quality and resilience in championing the common good of the Afro Caribbean Society in North wales.

Noth Wales Africa Society (NWAS), is a community organisation based in Gaynedd. It is a collective of members of the African diaspora and people who have a cultural interest in the countries of the African continent. NWAS aspires to achieve a vibrant inclusive society that supports and sustains a diverse community and holds values such as embracing the Welsh language, friendship, openness and inclusiveness, transparency, collaboration and mutual respect.

Dr Salamatu J. Fada is a co-founder and chairperson of the North Wales Africa society ad has worked hard in the role to maintain a good working relationship ath North Wales Police.

According to Andy Dunbobbin, ‘She is a vital point of contact for people who have moved to North Wales and offers a place to engage in fun and activities.

“People who are a part of NWAS have been victims of Hate Crime. Dr fada has supported these people and kept contact with local police to ensure all parties. Dr Fada is often a first point of contact tand offers advice, support and guidance. She is an important advocate d valued by the local policing team for her efforts to support victims and facilitate good communication.

“Hate Crime is particularly destructive because it hits right at the core of a person and attacks their very existence. Hate crime is the very thing that can lead to the breakdown of communities and a rise in tensions leading to further criminality. Havng a community advocate like Fr Fada helps to reduce the impact of such crime and can stem the rise of tensions. Working with the police to support weoms is not only of benefit to victims but it facilitates the police to deliver a batter service.

“Dr Salamatu is a go to for many and will always dedicate her time to help those in need. She is an exceptional example of commitment, diligence and focus.”

In August 2020, Dr Salamatu was endorsed as Regional Coordinator (RC), Gombe Diasporans in the United Kingdom and Europe by His Excellency the Executive Govemor of Gombe State, Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, her home state in NIgeria
