In a bold move highlighting its commitment to global democratic ideals, Connected Development (CODE) has announced the deployment of its Uzabe platform for an International Election Observation Mission (IEOM) to the United States.
Spearheaded by CODE’s Founder and Chief Executive, Hamzat B. Lawal, the mission features a 10-member delegation of seasoned Nigerian political and civic leaders, election experts, and regional specialists, all set to observe the highly anticipated November 8 elections.
In a statement by Stephen Akinfala
Communications Manager, Connected Development, he noted that the Nigerian delegation, fully accredited to oversee the electoral process, will use Uzabe’s digital platform to provide real-time, on-the-ground updates to promote transparency and bolster public trust in the democratic process.
The Uzabe platform, already a proven tool in election transparency during Nigeria’s 2023 General Elections, will monitor and report key events and processes in the U.S. election.
Lawal, emphasizing CODE’s dedication to safeguarding democratic integrity, stated, “It is an honor to stand with the people of the United States during this pivotal time. This mission reflects CODE’s values and dedication to fostering transparent, credible, and inclusive elections.”
Lawal further underscored that CODE’s observation would aim to deliver a thorough assessment, covering critical aspects such as voter participation, gender inclusion, election security, legal frameworks, media influence, and campaign practices.
The team’s presence in the United States builds on CODE’s past international missions, including prior engagements in Kenya (2012, 2022) and Liberia (2022), where Uzabe’s insights contributed significantly to election transparency.
CODE Boss expressed that the mission to the U.S. will adhere strictly to American regulations and uphold the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation, established by the United Nations in 2005.
He disclosed that on Election Day, Uzabe/CODE delegates will meticulously monitor polling stations, assessing the integrity of processes like polling station openings, voting, tabulation, result transmission, and reporting.
This strategic move highlights CODE’s growing influence and its Uzabe platform’s global adaptability, affirming its commitment to resilient democratic processes worldwide.
