Nigeria Condemns Military Coup in Guinea-Bissau

The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the military coup in Guinea-Bissau, describing it as an “unconstitutional change ojf government” that undermines democratic progress and stability in the West African sub-region.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Nigeria’s solidarity with the people of Guinea-Bissau and called for the immediate restoration of constitutional order, safety of detained officials, and respect for democratic institutions.

The statement urged authorities in Guinea-Bissau to ensure the safety of election observers and prioritize peaceful dialogue to resolve the crisis. Nigeria also warned that those behind the coup will be held accountable and pledged to work with regional and international partners to restore normalcy in Guinea-Bissau.

The African Union and ECOWAS have also condemned the coup, calling for the release of detained officials and the restoration of constitutional order.
