The Voice of Nigeria (VON) has expressed its willingness to collaborate with Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) on sensitising the public of the Commission’s activities and its noble achievements.

This was made known during a courtesy visit to the Office of the Chairman/CEO, NiDCOM, by the delegates from VON in Abuja, on Tuesday.

Leading the team of VON on behalf of the DG VON, Mr Osita Okechukwu, Mrs Edith Nelson Udo-Udo, Director, Strategic Planning and Corporate Development, stated that VON is an external broadcast platform which
serves as a voice for Nigeria, promote Nigerians and showcase the talents, resources and achievements from Nigeria at large.

Udo-Udo added that the purpose of the meeting was to rub minds and create synergy with the Commission, which has a complementary function of celebrating the Nigerian Diasporas and intervening when the need arises on their behalf.

Contributing, the Deputy Director, News (Foreign Affairs), Mr. Godwin Ukaa said that NiDCOM shared the same mandate with VON by telling Nigerians stories in their own way because too many negative stories of Nigerians in the Diaspora are in circulation than the positive stories.

A thankful Mr. Ukaa pointed out that, with social and digital media, VON has been able to create an application to reach a wider audience at just a click of a button.

The broadcast medium plans to create a 15-minute weekly programme to cover the activities of NiDCOM on special interests and events.

Receiving the delegation from VON, the Secretary to the Commission, Engr. Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi thanked them for the courtesy visit and inaugurated a Technical Committee to brainstorm and formalise the
partnership through a memorandum of understanding.
