NCWD INAUGURATES WOMEN LEADERSHIP FORUM.

The Minister for Women Affairs, Dame Pauline K Tallen has again made case for the female gender in the areas political leadership and other leadership positions.

The Honourable Minister who was represented by the Director General of National Center for Women Development, Asabe Vilita Bashir, stated this during the Inauguration and Launch of Women Leadership Forum in Abuja.

She spoke on a planned programme aimed at empowering women who will be given seed money at the end of the programme.

The guest speaker, Dr. Linda Kwon-Ndung, from Federal University Lafia, said that everywhere in the world women suffer just because of their gender. In her words, “more women won election between 1999 and 2011 largely due to changes in the electoral laws and processes such as Universal Suffrage.” she encouraged young girls to focus on their self development before thinking of marriage.

The wife of the Seriki Garki, Hannatu Usman, said that everyone should start something before attracting government to the idea.

The discussants spoken on many topics ranging from involvement of women in policy formulation, the extra energy a woman needs in order to match with a man, the need for continuous agitation, the role played by women against their fellow women, the need for women in leadership positions to surround themselves with competent hands, the ability of a woman to multiple whatever is given to her and the need for legal frameworks that support women inclusiveness in politics.

They all agreed that women have what it takes to fix Nigeria since they mothers, wives or sisters to the males in different leadership positions.
