The newly appointed Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu, mni has pledged to provide better working environment for members of staff in order to enhance the implementation of decisions and policies of the Federal Government.

Mr Nabasu assumed office last week and made on Monday when he held a town hall meeting with the staffers of the Ministry, saying that the essence of service is the implementation of decisions and policies set by government.

A statement signed by the Deputy Director/ Head (Information/Public Relations), Philomena Abiamuwe-Mowete, said the Permanent Secretary, who acknowledged the achievements of the Ministry, urged the staffers to further support the Hon. Minister in his drive to achieve the targets set for him by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also urged them to cooperate and support him in order to build on the Minister’s past achievements over the past years, assuring that he would provide adequate environment to achieve these objectives.

” The price of crude oil has been fluctuating in the global market, the advent of COVID-19 remains an ‘eye opener’ to Nigerians to know that the time has come for the country to diversify its economy because it can no longer depend on oil alone to prosper as a country”, he argued.

He therefore called on the members of staff to leverage on the advantages which the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy offers in the area of digitalisation of the nation’s economy to achieve the mandate of the Ministry and hasten the development of the national economy.

He urged the staff to be committed to their duties, remain punctual, and work with sincerity. “Service to the nation cannot be adequately remunerated; it is a service of sacrifices,” he said.

Nabasu emphasised the need for building the economy of Nigeria through the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy “to write our name on the sands of time.”

While responding to several issues earlier raised by the staffers of the Ministry, he assured that he would work in collaboration with the Management to liaise with relevant authorities concerned to ensure that they are adequately addressed.

According to him, his emphases would be on the provision of working tools, conducive environment, and training of staffers subject to the availability of resources with a view to adding value to their lives and in turn, they are expected to add value to the system.

Speaking earlier, the Director who superintended the office of the Permanent Secretary before Nabasu’s appointment, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Nwachukwu thanked and appreciated the staffer for cooperating with her during the short period of overseeing the office.

She also assured the staffers that the coming of the new Permanent Secretary to the Ministry is indeed a new dawn of love and peace among staffers, describing Nabasu as a man with reputable leadership qualities, experience, intelligent and very peaceful.

Dr. Mrs. Nwachukwu, who is Director PRS, enjoined all staffers to therefore support and rally round the Perm Sec with every sense of commitment and dedication so as to achieve the mandate of the Ministry.
