MVAA Ready To Host Transport & Logistics Excellence Award

The Motor Vehicle Administration Academy (MVAA) has concluded arrangement to host the maiden edition of the Transportation and Logistics Excellence Awards (TLEA).
This is in a bid to create a reward system that will ensure compliance to standard procedures and bring sanity to the Transportation sector.
In a press briefing on Thursday, May 4, 2019, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Motor Vehicle Administration Academy (MVAA), Prince Segun Obayendo, disclosed that the transportation sector contributes about 60% to the overall GDP of the country, but many who deserve the credits hardly get it.
He stated, “the TLEA Award is an opportunity to set the score right, to give honour to whom it is due and also to showcase how the entire economy has been made better off with these noble contributions.”
The CEO, further explained that for the first time in Nigeria, the country is going to experience the beauty, glamour and sophistication of a truly authentic transportation sector award comprising all the modes of transportation: Sea, Land, Air and Rail.
According to him, “This award can be defined as an award for transport, by the transport community, for stakeholders of transportation. It is geared towards ensuring that stakeholders are monitored and set aside for recognition.
“It will make people become globally compliant and the award will instill global practice. We are doing a lot in the transport sector and we believe that the standard can improve more than what we have”, Prince Obayendo said.
He said that the expected outcome of the event are, “First, we want to be intentional about showcasing some of the giant strides these nominees have made. Second, we also want the public to be aware of the transportation resources at their disposal.
“Some of the nominees have deployed technology, created seamless process for operations and also opened up opportunities that can be maximised by players in the industry.
“As a result of this award, so many people will know how much the transportation sector in the country has evolved to compete favourably with nations in similar clime”, The CEO added.
Also speaking, the representative of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Augustine Makama, noted that essence of the award is to improve service delivery, adding that the Federal Ministry of Transportation will welcome any activity that will lead to excellence and the development of the country.
The Assistant Chief (ICT), Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Pauline Osasona, said the Council is in tune with any organisation that promotes the economy of Nigeria and as such welcomes the award.
On the partnership with MVAA, he said the collaboration is geared towards excellence.
“We have always been in synergy with any organisation that promotes the economy of Nigeria in the transport sector.
“We work together with a lot of organisation, we corporate with them and whenever we can lend a hand, we usually do.“ Osasona noted.
He added that the transport sector is key to the development of the country and the Nigerian Shippers Council was helping to foster efficiency in the Nigerian transportation sector.
The Transportation and Logistics Excellence Awards(TLEA), is expected to hold on May 20, 2019 at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja.
