Minister for Humanitarian Affairs flags- off grant in CRS

The Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar on Thursday, August 4, 2022, flagged – off the grant and launching of digitized payment of conditional cash transfer for vulnerable group in Cross River State.
Hajiya Umar at the commencement of the programme said it was the consolidation of the National Social Investment Programme, NSIP which was designed by the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to specially and effectively give a lifting hand to some of the indigent and vulnerable citizens of the country and to be implemented in direct collaboration with the State Government.
She pointed out that the initiative is a clear demonstration of ‘our commitment to address poverty which today is a core developmental challenge confronting us as a people.
The initiative, which was established in 2016 has impacted positively on the vulnerable in the country as it has witnessed remarkable turnaround in the fortune of citizens who lived below the poverty line but are now living a decent life’.
She further added that the target is to disburse the grant to three thousand three hundred and fifty one (3351) beneficiaries across the Eighteen Local Government Areas of the State with seventy percent (70%) of the money going to women and the youths getting the remaining thirty percent (30%); People with special needs, including those with disability and senior citizens will get fifteen percent (15%) of the total money.
Hon Umar hopes that the beneficiaries of the grant will utilize this opportunity and improve on their productive activities that will generate income and also, improve their standard of living.
In her reaction, the Honourable Commissioner for Humanity and Social Welfare in the State, Blessing Egbara appreciated the Federal Government for the grant and assured the Honourable Minister of the proper disbursement of the grant.
