LITERACY DAY: IMSG SA DIASPORA Advocates More Opportunities For Women. ……Thanks Gov Uzodinma for setting the pace.

The 8th of September every year is marked as Literacy Day globally and this year’s theme focuses on ‘Literacy Teaching and Learning in the Covid19 Crisis and Beyond’.

The Special Adviser to Imo State Governor in Nigeria, Senator Hope Uzodinma was a guest on Reach FM but in her capacity as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for a local NGO, Albertiqs Extra Helping Hands.

Celia was recently approached to join the Board of Trustees of Albertiqs Foundation, just over a month ago. Hon. Cllr. Celia was quickly elevated to the Chairperson’s position due to her wealth of experience and unreserved commitment to the fight for ‘Women Empowerment’. Albertiqs Extra Helping Hands Foundation is absolutely focused on Women and the Girl Child agenda.

Responding to a question on the live Radio show, Hon. Councillor Osakwe-Hibbert was emphatic on the need for radical policies to better the situation of women both locally and continent wide. The SA noted that ‘although there has been an increase in literacy rate in Nigeria over the past decade, the increase is slow and the ratio of the increase particularly for women is about 15 percent slower in comparison to average statistics’.
“We can have reserved slots for women in politics as well to increase proportionate participation in terms of gender.

“We must wake up with determination and deliberacy on how to empower women. I don’t just want to see women picked up on the streets for sexual gratification I want women to be equipped and armed with credible options. I’m happy that we now have young women in positions like myself, so I thank the Governor of Imo State for helping to change the narrative”.

Other members of Albertiqs Board who joined the interview are the Executive Director (Uzomaka Nnah), Ogechi and Hector who are also Board Members of Albertiqs Foundation. The entire team made a strong case for the need for accelerated Women Empowerment.

Speaking, The Executive Director stated that women should have no limitations and should be encouraged to dream big. She announced a forthcoming bootcamp programme targeted at young girls all free of charge which will be powered by the Foundation.

Callers queued up as the conversation heated up, they shared their experiences of what life is as a woman in Igbo Land.
