Lady Lilian Laid to Rest as Okuni Community Mourns

Okuni Community in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State was thrown into mourning on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as family members, friends and well-wishers gathered to bid farewell to Late Lady Lilian Awu Ogor Abung, who was laid to rest in her hometown.
Lady Lilian was a daughter of the late Chief Anthony Ogor Abung and the late Princess Sarah Oyam Abung of Okuni. She was born on November 28, 1970, as the 11th of 12 children in the family.
Education
Late Lady Lilian began her primary education in Okuni before proceeding to Community Secondary School, Ofutop. She later transferred to Christ the King College, Adikpo, Benue State, where she completed her secondary education in 1989.
She was remembered as a focused, disciplined and neat student during her secondary school years.
In 1995, she gained admission to study English Education at the University of Jos, Plateau State, where she successfully completed her studies before proceeding for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Career
Following her NYSC programme, Lady Lilian secured employment with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), where she worked diligently until her death.
Her professional life was characterised by commitment, dedication and service.
Faith and Social Life
A devoted Catholic, Lady Lilian was born and raised in the Catholic faith and remained committed to it throughout her life.
Beyond her professional and religious life, she was described as a reserved but warm and friendly person who cared deeply for her family members and friends.
During her university years, she was reportedly lively and sociable among her circle of friends, earning a reputation as one of the vibrant members of her social group.
Death
Lady Lilian fell ill on July 28, 2026, and was rushed to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, where she later passed away, leaving her family, friends and community in grief.
Her remains were laid to rest on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Okuni, Ikom Local Government Area.

She is survived by her brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends, who continue to mourn her passing and cherish the memories she left behind.
As family and community members bade her farewell, they prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and expressed gratitude for the life she lived and the legacy of service and humanity she left behind.
