KATSINA TO REPATRIATES 7893 ALMAJIRIS, 2,052 NIGERENS

KATSINA State government has approved the repatriation of a total number of 7,893 Almajiris, out of which 2,052 are Nigerens to their home States and country.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari gave the approval today, Wednesday while presiding the State Executive Council Meeting at Government House Katsina.
It would be recalled, sometime back, the State government has set up a committee on the identification and collation of data of Almajiri schools and was charged with the responsibility to identify Almajiri schools in the State, their locations, name of the pupils, names of the tutors and to repatriate non indegens, The state has ound out that 7893 were non indigents which now face repatriation.
It was also learnt that recently a number of Katsina State indigines engaged in Quranic studies across the country were repatriated back to Katsina and due to that, most of the streets in the State are filled up with Almajiris with those that were repatriated and those who think the State is safe to operate.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the meeting, the State Commissioner for Environment, Hamza Suleiman Faskari said only those that were identified as non indigines would be repatriated and the reforms of the Islamic Education in the State will soon be amended.
“Katsina State Executive Council meeting have approved the repatriation of 7893 Almajiris of those to be identified of non indigines to their various States and Niger republic.
“Reformation of the Almajiri schools system in Katsina State where the Islamic education bureau should amend the enabling law, the function and structure of the bureau should be broadened so that the responsibility involved around the old system should be well taken care of”.
According to him, the resolutions was the outcome of the 23-man committee set up by government to look into and come up with the workable structure that proceed the system.
Similarly, the Katsina State Executive Council meeting has approved the sum of N3,365,709.846
as part of measures to mitigate flooding across the State.
“Katsina State Ministry for Environment has been mandated to protect and maintain a healthy environment of Katsina State. The specification of the Ministry include, flood and erosion control”.
He added that, based on that, a memo was presented to the Council for the contract on the implementation of the develop material for 2020/2021 flood and erosion projects in the State.
