Katsina State Government Commences Ranch Development in 10 Front Line Local Governments

As part of it’s concerted efforts to stop banditry activities in the state and improve the agricultural sector, the Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the federal government of Nigeria, has commenced ranch development in 10 front line local government areas.

In a statement on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Musa Kallah, the project is part of the delivery of earlier pledges to handle banditry activities and farmers clash in the state.

According to the statement, already, the Federal Government has released the sum of N6.25 billion to Katsina State government since last year for Pasture Development and the construction of infrastructures in the areas around Ruma-Kujar-Jangarai grazing reserves and nearby communities in the state.

The front line council areas include, Jibia, Batsari, Dutsinma, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Faskari, Sabuwa and Dandume Local Government Areas.

The state Deputy Governor, QS Mannir Yakubu, made this known during the Ranch Development Stakeholders meeting held in Katsina on Monday.

The Deputy Governor, who was represented by Alhaji Lawal Bagiwa, the Special Adviser on Livestock and Grazing Reserves, said the funds would be used for the construction of schools, health centres and veterinary clinics in the benefitting communities.

He added that the government will engage the services of contractors who will construct 14 infrastructures in all the 10 local councils.

Yakubu assured that the state government would continue to do it’s best to ensure that peace and stability is restored across the state.

He however requested for the support and cooperation of the affected communities for the execution of the infrastructures in the identified sites.

Alhaji Lawal Bagiwa, the Special Adviser on Livestock and Grazing Reserves in an interview, said the state government intends to intervene by providing three ranches in Jibia and Batsari LGAs.

While four ranches would be constructed in Dutsinma, Kurfi and Safana LGAs, he added that, three other ranches would be located at Danmusa, Kankara, Faskari, Sabuwa and Dandume LGAs.
