INTERNATIONAL MUSEUMS DAY: Nigeria Celebrates on a Low-key as Covid-19, NCMM announced Virtual Museum

As the world marks the International Museum Day 2021, Nigeria has joined the rest of the world to mark the celebration, which is an international day held annually on or around 18 May, coordinated by the International Council of Museums.
It is a cultural show piece celebrated across the globe amongst museums and culture enthusiasts to interact, assess and highlight the challenges / prospects for the development of the museum and its vital role as an agent of peace in the service of community.
The theme for this year’s celebration as approved by the International council of museums (ICOM), is “The Future of Museums: Recover and Re-imagine”.
In a statement made available to News Dot Africa by the Head, Public Relations, National Council for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Dapo Sijuade today disclosed that Nigeria this year will be having a low-key celebration due to the phase 4 COVID-19 restrictions by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), which limits the number of persons in public gatherings across the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory.
However, the Commission assured Nigerians and all culture lovers that an appropriate date for a befitting celebration shall be communicated eventually, as soon as the restrictions are reviewed”, he stated.
In a media chat with the NTA morning Program on the future of museums in Nigeria, the Director General of NCMM, Professor Abba Isa Tijani who called for partners disclosed that Commission will soon ntroducei virtual museum to keep pace with the new global trend.
